Welcome to the FRA Supervisor "Signs & Symptoms" Video Training 

 

This video series has been designed to inform supervisors of DOT-covered employees of their role in your company's drug and alcohol testing program.  As required by Department of Transportation regulations found in 49 CFR Part 40 and Part 129, they will learn how to make a determination that an employee could be impaired and the course of action to take after that determination is made.  They will also learn what events constitute an accident under FRA regulations and who should be tested once they determine that the event meets the definition of an accident.   This course is specifically designed for employers who must comply with DOT and FRA drug and alcohol testing requirements for either hours of service employees or maintenance of way employees. 

Objectives

This course will provide the required information in video format as stipulated by 49 CFR Parts 40 and 129:

The following information will be addressed in this course:

 

  • General Effects of Drugs & Alcohol in the workplace
  • The duties of the employees who are subject to the program.
  • Definition of a Safety-Sensitive Employee
  • Employer, Supervisor, and Employee Responsibilities
  • Information on the effects of alcohol on a person’s health, work, and personal life
  • Information on the effects of drugs on a person’s health, work, and personal life
  • Employee conduct that is prohibited by the regulations.
  • The drug screen collection process
  • An explanation of what constitutes a refusal to test.
  • An explanation of the consequences of refusing a test.
  • Definition of an MRO, DER, and SAP
  • When and under what circumstances employees will be tested.
  • The consequences of violating the DOT prohibited conduct regulations.
  • The signs and symptoms of drug use and alcohol misuse.
  • Proper management & documentation of constructive employee confrontations
